New product lines bring exciting opportunities but also unexpected challenges. This rang true for a large baked goods manufacturer, who began encountering persistent lubrication problems with their brand-new tortilla production line.
The customer's tortilla line operates at extremely high temperatures. This wreaked havoc on the customer's conveyor chain, causing frequent breakdowns and costly downtime. The OEM-supplied lubrication system also required constant refilling of small reservoirs, increasing the risk of contamination.
An Initial Solution's Promising Start
Recognizing the need for a robust solution, the customer turned to us. We installed a new oil spray system designed for high-temperature applications. While this addressed some of the customer's issues, a new problem arose—caramelization on the lubrication nozzles.
"They were still having an issue with caramelization on the nozzles that apply the lubrication," said Ian Miller, Manager for Motion Fluid Power Solutions in Canada. "Since it was our system, they called us to take a look. We were able to help them identify that the oil they were using, which they weren't sourcing from us, wasn't suitable for their temperature rating."
