Racing Against the Clock to Complete an Expedited Repair Job
Our Motion Repair & Services team was contacted to complete critical pump repairs for a customer. A water pump used in the customer's production area had failed. The only other working pump in their facility was already showing signs of failure. Worried that both pumps would soon break down, resulting in a halting of operations, the customer contacted our team to see how quickly we could resolve this problem.
Though the customer needed us to complete their repairs quickly, another complication arose. Our team soon realized that this would be a unique repair job due to the type of pump the customer used - an uncommon vertical version of an ANSI pump. While this would be challenging for our Motion Repair & Services team to repair and our suppliers to source, we were ready to come together and face this challenge head-on.
How Motion Repair & Services Collaborated with Our Partners to Get the Job Done
First, the customer's damaged pump was taken to our Motion Repair & Services shop in Omaha, Nebraska. Our Motion Repair & Services team evaluated the pump, volute, and backplate. Soon, our team realized that, rather than repairing the customer's pump, this was going to be a replacement job, as our team concluded that the pump was damaged beyond repair.
With time constraints that prevented our team from ordering a new pump, Motion Repair & Services reached out to a trusted supplier for help. This supplier had an ANSI 2K6X4-13RV pump in stock. While this wasn't an exact match for what our team needed, it was something that we could quickly modify for the customer. Our supplier was also able to quickly locate the volute and backplate, expediting their delivery to the team at our Omaha shop.
Completing the Job in Record Time
With all of the parts finally coming together, our team was able to complete this job in a record five days. Typically, this is a job that would take our Motion Repair & Services team several weeks to complete.
Lon Boysen, Liquid Handling Product Specialist at Motion, said that the customer was thrilled with the outcome of this job.
“One of the great things about Motion is how we work together to get things done,” Boysen said. “This isn’t a repair that could have happened with one person; it had to be a team. Between our team, suppliers, and distribution center, it was the perfect storm to make this happen for the customer.”
