The Challenge: A Critical Gearbox Failure During a Shutdown
During a scheduled shutdown in January, a cement manufacturer requested our Nisku, Alberta, team to perform borescope inspections on a site gear reducer. During the inspection, we identified a critical issue: the input shaft bearing of the gearbox had failed.
The customer needed the gearbox removed, repaired and returned to their site by February 10 to avoid delaying the kiln start-up. The timeline was tight, and the repair required expedited action, including sourcing hard-to-find bearings and coordinating logistics to meet the deadline.
Our Solution: Rapid Repairs and Seamless Coordination

Expedited Bearing Sourcing:
- Most bearings were sourced locally to save time.
- One critical bearing was not available locally, so we sourced it from another location and rushed it to our Nisku facility.

Rush Repairs:
- We prioritized this project as a rush request, allocating overtime and expediting shipping to meet the customer’s timeline.
